This project arose during the Fictional Portraits exhibition for the Galway Arts Festival in 2011. These are the initial photographs of each participant. The idea to face the subjects the wrong way came about partly as a joke but also as a way to create a more relaxed atmosphere for each sitting. Years later I was looking back over these images and thought that these photographs had an interesting quality to them. With the face hidden from view, it seems to frustrate and subvert our expectations of portraiture.
