Commissioned by Absolut Vodka for the 2011 Galway Arts Festival, the Fictional Portraits project grew even larger with 503 people participating and 5,282 photographs taken over 10 days.
I was interested in constructing portraits that visually appear to be a single person, but cognitively we are trying to interpret facial signals from a number of individuals. These signals can never fully match. This slight mismatch conveyed emotions results in a portrait that appears to be of an individual but one whose facial expression displays a subtle combination of mixed signals.
